Pilger Predicts G8 Will Refuse Poverty Relief For Africa
LONDON — The front page of the June 12 Observer announced, “$55bn Africa debt deal ‘a victory for millions'”. The “victory for millions” is a quotation of Bob Geldof, who said, “Tomorrow 280 million Africans will wake up for the first time in their lives without owing you or me a penny...” The nonsense of this would be breathtaking if the reader's breath had not already been extracted by the unrelenting sophistry of Bob Geldof, Bono, Prime Minister Tony Blair, British treasurer Gordon Brown, the Observer et. al. GPJA Says Time Helen Clark Sorted Out Zimbabwe Tour Issue
- Phil Goff has told NZ Cricket's Martin Snedden that the government does not want the tour to proceed. But GPJA's John
Minto says this is well short of a formal request for this tour to be abandoned. "This would be best done with Helen
Clark meeting with the full council of New Zealand Cricket and making a formal request on behalf of the government and
people of New Zealand. This formal request would point out the similarities in the situation of the 1976 All Blacks who
toured South Africa entertaining whites while black school children were being murdered in the streets of Soweto," GPJA
stated today. See... MP's HR Consistency Assessed - From Zaoui To Zimbabwe
- Phil Goff today outlined the steps the Government would be taking now that they have suddenly realised that our
cricket team is going to Zimbabwe. "Naturally, we deplore Zimbabwe's human rights record and we will do everything we
reasonably can to stop this situation recurring," said Goff, whose main achievement as Minister of Foreign Affairs and
Trade is the opening of free trade negotiations with China. See... NZ MPs Care About Human Rights All Of A Sudden [1]
Bonus Joules Proposes A Solution To The Kyoto Conundrum
- Hurray. So New Zealand has suddenly lost a billion dollars ‘value’ because of our expenditure of our carbon credits.
Yesterday we had half a billion dollars in credits. Today we are a carbon debtor by half a billion dollars. Great. I
never could understand how carbon trading could work for us. Now it is time to start taking Kyoto seriously and making
some real money out of it. See... Bonus Joules: When Is A Hole Not A Hole? [1]
Paul Buchanan On US Special Forces Losses
- The downing of a US helicopter in Eastern Afghanistan with 16 Special Forces soldiers represents the single worst
combat loss by the US in that country since the invasion of late 2001. The loss is made all the more grave when
considering the investment that goes into the training and equipment of special forces troops—in this case 8 Navy SEALs
and 8 Army Aviation special operators sent on a mission to rescue a four man SEAL reconnaissance squad lost after coming
under fire in Kunar Province. See... Paul Buchanan: On Special Ops Military Investment [1]
