No War Peace Please
By Kamala Sarup
Will or won't the Government political parties and Maoists agree to come for peace process? Have the Maoists realized they are taking the wrong path?
We Nepalese people do not want war and do not want Maoists confrontation. The citizens of Nepal are confronting a painful past. We should not forget reconciliation does provide structures and mechanisms that can eliminate the basis for war. However, the present crisis cannot be managed just by an agreement between the Maoist and the government without showing genuine political honesty by all the political parties also.
Nepalese Government political parties and Maoists should stand for unity and should promote unity. They should know peace is required for a faster economic growth because most of the poor live in rural areas. They should stand for political, economic, and social institutional solidarity, promote equity. The Maoists have resorted to inhumane killing. They have been responsible for the exodus of many ordinary people, including some schoolteachers working in remote areas. In the past, they restricted the movement of young people from the area of their control to other parts of the country.
All the Social organizations, Human Rights organizations, political parties and Government must play a stronger role in maintaining peace by addressing issues left over the years and bring peace in the country. We want peace. What Nepali people want is improvement of transport and communication, education, healthcare, farming, industry and over-all a happy life with security, friendship and mutual trust and cooperation.
Wars have always brought ruin. The Maoists war also has driven away tourists and investors.
The peace-loving Nepalese want peace. If the Government, political parties and Maoists leaders want peace, then resolving the issues of the relationships between the people and the communities with equality, tolerance, and friendship love is necessary. The people who have been displaced from their lands and homes by the current conflict, should be allowed to return to their homes.
To achieve permanent peace, security and stability in Nepal, the political parties, government, maoists civic society and intellectual forces should work together to the creation of a peaceful and prosperous Nepal through mutual understanding. The dialogue with the Maoists should be concluded so as to fulfill the objective of democracy, constitutional monarchy, people's sovereignty development and peace. Also, we should hold general elections and local elections soon.
Nepalese people want to focus on a constructive future and escape the horrors of further violence. Politics should be for the welfare and interests of the people and nationality, and national solidarity.
Peace should prevail at any cost. The root causes should be addressed in order to take the problem to a logical end and to establish a lasting peace. government, political parties, maoists, civil society and Human rights organizations should work together to reach the existing conflict. Nepal cannot afford any more violence. Nepal does not want war.
We want Peace. No war please.
