LEAD STORY:
Congratulations Flow For Campbell On His US Open Win
Prime Minister Helen Clark today congratulated Michael Campbell on his stunning win in the United States Golf Open, the first golfing major win by a New Zealander since Sir Bob Charles’ British Open win in 1963. The start of Cabinet was deferred while Ministers watched the final holes. Michael Campbell wrote: "What a week! At last - a Major in the bag! It's been a long time in the making, but I've finally achieved a goal I set myself many years ago. It's such a fantastic feeling to make a breakthrough in the US - and at the US Open, no less! Kind regards, Michael Campbell." See... Scoop Report: Centre-Right Lobby Has $2mil For Anti-Labour Campaign
- Kevin List reports that a forestry lobby group is planning a $2 million dollar election year advertising campaign
attacking the Government’s handling of forestry in regard to the Kyoto protocol. The budget for the anti-Government
campaign is nearly twice that spent by the largest opposition party last election. In 2002 the National Party’s
(privately-funded) election expense returns showed they had spent around one million dollars on their failed election
campaign. See... Kyoto Lobby To Attack Govt. With $2 Mn Campaign [1] ALSO: Price Waterhouse - Concerns About Business Impact of Kyoto Estimates [2]
Prince William's Visit - More Than Just Rugby
- Prime Minister Helen Clark today announced the programme for next month's visit to New Zealand by Prince William.
Helen Clark said Prince William is taking the opportunity to visit a wide variety of places and people during his first
trip to New Zealand from 30th June to 10th July. "As well as supporting the British and Irish Lions rugby tour, Prince
William will also undertake official engagements while he is in New Zealand," Helen Clark said. See... Prince William's visit to New Zealand [1]
NZ Government Outraged At Japan's Advance-Whaling Stance
- Japan's plans to expand its scientific whaling programme are utterly devoid of any scientific credibility,
Conservation Minister Chris Carter said from the International Whaling Commission (IWC) meeting in Korea today. "I
deplore Japan's stand on this issue," Mr Carter told a press conference at the IWC attended by ministers from Australia,
the United Kingdom, Germany, and New Zealand. See... Carter slams Japan's scientific whaling at IWC [1] ALSO: Greenpeace - World's First Virtual March for Whales unveiled [2]

UN Experts Concerned At Canada's Human Rights Breaches
- While generally praising the rule of law in Canada, a team of United Nations human rights experts voiced “great
concern” at the fact that there are now more persons deprived of their liberty awaiting trial or sentencing, at any one
time, than there are persons actually serving a sentence in detention, following national sentencing reform. See... Increase in Unsentenced Detainees in Canada [1]

Rosalea Barker: Father's Day In A Nation At War
- Today, the United States celebrates Fathers Day. Some young men will never become fathers. Here is the story of one
of them, in his own words, annotated by his father. I am grateful to Richard Linn for sharing this with me, and hope I
have treated it with due respect. It explains so much about the complexities of this world we're living in that I urge
you to read it all. See... Stateside With Rosalea: No Child Left Behind [1]
The Downing Street Memo: The Queen and the Soldier
- To paraphrase the inimitable Suzy V: America has swallowed a secret burning thread, it cuts us inside and often we've
bled. With the release of a defense memo from March of 2002 as part of the "Downing Street Memos," it is clear that the
desire to remove Saddam's despotism was used as the lever to pursue an ill-conceived, ill-advised and ill-considered
strategy of "regime change" that was destined to place in charge a government that was led either by a "Sunni strong
man" or a representative government loaded with "Western stooges." See... Toni Solo: From Klaus Barbie To Posada Carriles
- The political and economic problems afflicting the United States and its allies generate effects progressively more
corrosive and self-destructive. From the bogus "war on terror" to fraudulent declarations on debt relief, they seem to
flounder from one transparently desperate manouevre to the next. For the moment, poisoned by successive colonial
interventions, their governments expect people to believe the absurd myth that they are defending "democracy" or the
"homeland". See... Toni Solo: US Co-Dependency On Terror [1]
Bill Berkowitz: The March Of The Horowistas
- Before 9/11, David Horowitz attacked political correctness on college campuses across the country. These days, under
the rubric of academic freedom, bands of Horowistas are waging a vigorous ground war against liberal academics. See... Bill Berkowitz: Campus Crusader [1]

NZ To Miss Its Kyoto Target By 36.2Mt CO2e
- The latest government forecast of net greenhouse gas emissions for 2008-12 shows New Zealand will miss its Kyoto

environment, way of life and economy. Unless there is a concerted global effort to limit emissions and the extent of
climate change, New Zealand, and its agricultural base, will be hit hard," says Convenor of the Ministerial Group on
