Arabic Awakening
By Genevieve Cora Fraser
In a dream
Like state
As dawn awoke
Inside me
Softly enveloped
My soul
Arabic murmured
Deep and low
Controlled
My being
I listened
Absorbed
The sound
Like music
Rhythmic
Tones breathed
Into me a newness
Dawning
Awakening
In Arabic sensations
Murmured
Somewhere
Inside me
Drew me up
Into consciousness
Born
Unknowing
Untutored
Waiting
To learn
A tongue
Thrust
Into my being
Germinating
The language
Of love
Into life
