assume...) Cereal maker, philanthropist and Auckland's latest mayoral hopeful is on the show today.
12 30 Australian Nauru expert Professor Helen Hughes.
Professor Hughes is a Senior Fellow at the Centre for Independent Studies and author of their influential report Aid Has
Failed the Pacific, which questioned the efficacy of Australia's aid distribution. The state of Nauru's finances was a
prime topic at the Pacific Island's Forum. The nation has run, as Hughes has it, a riches-to-rags course, from one of
the richest countries in the world thirty years ago to one a country on the verge of bankruptcy. We will be talking to
Professor Hughes about how we got to this point, and if current aid policies may be seen as partly culpable.
