Skewed Vision
By Norma Sherry
Is Kerry the answer? I suspect you would agree that he is not, but he is the best chance we have of ridding ourselves of the cancer in the White House. Clearly, there is a great divide in our country. There are those that believe our present resident at the helm, George W. Bush, can do no wrong. Then, there are those of us that see him for what he truly is: an inept, inarticulate, lying, viper.
Before your dander is in an uproar, please note that in the three-years I've been writing about this administration, this is the most direct I have ever been. There are some of you that will write and call me a "left-wing" so and so. Of course, those of you that do will be much more inclined to a more vulgar characterization. I mean no disrespect. I am not predisposed toward profanity or presumptuous proclamations. No, I generally choose my declarations carefully and only after great study of the facts; hence, my assertions regarding Mr. Bush.
But back to my discussion: For those of you in agreement that Kerry/Edwards must get our vote, I implore you to become an active soldier in our fight for preservation. Each of us needs to make our concerns known to our friends, our family, and our co-workers. We each need to make someone else see the light. Then, once we safely have no remnants of the Bush administration in our midst, our real fight can begin.
Dear fellow-Americans, we have but a short four-years to find a true candidate of the people and for the people, an individual beholding to no one. An individual of character, and intellect, and compassion; a man or a woman who embodies the true qualities of leadership and integrity. A leader that speaks for every man and every woman, who will protect and defend and never put our children in harms way without first doing all in his or her power to resolve the impending danger. We need an individual without false bravado, without prejudices, and without pre-conceived notions -- a leader with vision. We need a representative that does not have an allegiance to the corporate world, or the wealthy, or any entity.
We need a leader that the world and we can look up to - a person deserving of our respect. An individual dedicated to creating world peace, and who has an innate understanding of our precious natural resources, those of our children, as well as, our earth. We need a person who cares for the betterment of humankind, and an individual who will live up to the vision of our founding fathers -- a leader who will honor our Constitution and our Bill of Rights and will lead our country into the next era with grace and foresight. We need an honest man or woman. Nothing less will do.
Honesty. We grew up reading about "Honest Abe" and George Washington's cherry tree. As children, we thought that's how it was. One didn't become a leader of our great nation unless that person exemplified all that was best of man. Now, sadly, we know better. In today's world, it's who has the most money for the most television commercials, and the most flamboyant presentations. Truth and honesty has nothing to do with today's politics.
Not so very long ago our children learned the definition of what is is. Sex in the White House became a contrived issue and the fear was that our children would hear the term "oral sex" on the nightly television news. Now they hear their president defend his defenseless war, his dishonest military record, his language of lies, and yet, there are those that defend him still. I fear the lessons of today's youth are twisted and perverse, and far more harrowing than learning a new sex term.
It's decision time folks. It's time to get off our comfy perches and put our mouthpieces to work. If you care about our country, about your grandbabies, your children, your children's children, it's time, for time is a wastin'. If you think, as those that want you to think this way, that we can't change our president in wartime. Think about this: We are in a war devised by this president and this administration. Every fact that we know is that this war was planned long before 911. Every fact that we know proves that we were lied to and deceived to by this president. Every fact that we know bolsters the proof that our children, our neighbor's children, our husbands and wives, were put in harm's way not to defend our country, but for the pure, solitary capture of the richest oil fields in the world.
We're now told that he, Sadaam Hussein, that vulgar murderer, had the capabilities to build weapons of mass destruction. What is conveniently left out of that speech is how we know. The despicable role we played. The role we are still playing elsewhere in the world of despotic rulers. Do we care that millions are dying in the Sudan? Do we argue that we must attack North Korea because their leader, Kim Il Sung, is by far many-fold worse than Hussein ever was? Do we worry that young girls and young women in Afghanistan are at the whim of the self-appointed "Virgin Police"? Is our concern for humanity lopsided tilting towards black, rich, oil and filling the already gold-lined pockets of corporate America with even more extravagant wealth?
Are we told that billions of dollars in contracts have been handily handed over to well-connected American companies, companies that gave obscene contributions to lobbyists touting republican views and the Republican Party itself? Companies such as, Halliburton ($4-billion) for repairs to the oil industry; DynCorp ($50-million) for law-enforcement support; the Bechtel Group ($3-billion) for reconstruction, are just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. There are contracts to American companies for shipping armored vehicles, for upgrading the Iraqi Ministry of Defense building, for electrical power transmission, for computers, and the list goes on and on. The Windfalls of War according to The Center for Public Integrity is growing daily in numbers nearly incalculable. Not surprisingly, war is very big business. No wonder George W. Bush is celebrated among his elite base as the "War President".
Ladies and Gentlemen, it is time we all opened our eyes to the assault upon our good name. It is time we say no to the war profiteers. It is time we put an end to the deaths to innocents. It is time we made our voices heard. We need to send a loud and resounding message to this administration and all the men and women who promote this war that their time is short. We need to say we are mad as hell and we are not going to take this anymore. Election day is nearing closer every day. It is time for every citizen to stand up and say good-bye to the lies.
