Poem: Marching With An IDF Soldier Against War

Published: Tue 23 Mar 2004 09:42 AM
Pro-Peace, Pro-Iraq, Pro-Palestine, Pro-Israeli Former Enemy
2004 March NYC Rally
By Genevieve Cora Fraser
I supported him
As best I could
The drunken
Former IDF
American-Israeli
Soldier slobbering
Drunk all over me
Spitting out his anguish
Between two flag
Bearing paunchy
Middle-aged
Palestinian marchers
Up and down the streets
Of New York town
We marched
Against the occupation
Of Iraq of Palestine
Of America at war
With the world
We marched for love
For acceptance for peace
As the former IDF soldier
Wailed against a wall
Of oppression he lived
In Israel wailed against Israel's
Slaughter of his fiancé
Three years since her death
A soldier too he begged her
Not to go to Lebanon
To kill she returned
Dead their dreams
Of a family, life, joy
Murdered by Israel
He screamed
Bellowed in counterpoint
To the rally chants he fell
The puffing Palestinian
Marchers picked him up
Held him in their arms
Tried to comfort the former
Enemy who would not be
Consoled
