NewsFlash: Car Bomb In Riyadh Targets Americans

Three car bomb explosions in an American compound in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh are already being attributed to the terrorist group Al Qaeda.
The bombings which have not yet even been officially acknowledged by the Saudi authorities are thought to have injured many people, though no reports on deaths and injuries appear to have come through yet.
Saudi Arabia, the largest oil producing nation in the world, is the birthplace of Al Qaeda and its leader Osama Bin Laden. Fourteen of the 19 people identified as hijackers on September 11th came from Saudi Arabia.

(CBS) U.S. officials say there were three simultaneous explosions at residential compounds where westerners live in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, reports CBS National Security Correspondent David Martin. According to first reports, the explosions were caused by car bombs. There are reports of casualties, but no reports of American casualties.
A security official said that a black Chevrolet Caprice sedan crashed into a residential compound in Garnata, an eastern suburb of Riyadh.
The blasts…. come on the eve of U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell's scheduled trip to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday to promote the American-developed “road map” for Middle East peace.

Car With Explosives Hits Saudi Compound

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP)--A car packed with explosives crashed into a Riyadh compound housing Westerners and blew up late Monday. There were casualties, Saudi security officials said.
The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the car exploded after slamming into a residential compound in the eastern part of the Saudi Arabian capital.
The officials said the explosion caused an unspecified number of injuries.
