Scoop Feedback: Looking For A Dead Person

Published: Sat 22 Mar 2003 07:34 PM
Hi!
The police of Geneva is looking for the dead person it is supposed to have killed, according to your web site. Can you help us?
More seriously, we ask you to delete immediately the wrong allegation that "at least one person is now dead after police shot with bullets in a crowd of 500 persons..." of your web site ( http://www.scoop.co.nz/mason/stories/HL0303/S00185.htm ).
This information is absolutely ridiculous, absurd and completely wrong.
You are free to dramatize the information if you wish so - it seems you have a real talent for that! - but not to create information! The next time you intend to inform about the "Swiss police" - another nonsense in term of police's organisation in Switzerland - don't be afraid to ask for a better and more credible source of information.
Thank you.

SCOOP EDITOR REPLIES: Scoop did not claim this information was correct in its report. It was included in the report as a piece of feedback posted to our original article which had been submitted to Swiss Indymedia. The problem of accuracy of such information is one of the unfortunate and unavoidable problems of the open publishing model that Indymedia uses. It is possible even that the poster of the note was seeking to be ironic.
That said Scoop apologises wholeheartedly to the Swiss Police for any trouble we have caused them. But we note that they would not have experienced this problem had they not tear gassed a group of protesting Swiss teenagers in the first place.
