Scoop Update #11

More Award Recognition - Thankyou!
Dear My Scoop Subscribers,
As it came down to the line Rupert Murdoch’s News Ltd, Tony O’Reilly’s Granny Herald, The Government’s TVNZ, and the portal of the near monopolist mega-corporations Telecom & Microsoft were the competition.
And as Scoop.co.nz was announced as a fellow finalist in the “best news service” a cheer went up from the 400 strong crowd.
And so another certificate of excellence to put on the trophy wall! Phew! And thanks. Your votes – 38,000 people voted in the awards! - made it possible.
And while we may not have won the main event (INL's stuff.co.nz was the actual winner), we did at least figure as finalists in one of the most hotly contested categories.
Moreover, bearing in mind that each and every one of our fellow finalists is a multi-million dollar losing (or heavily cross-subsidised) enterprise with an massive real-world presence and huge budget, our presence among this group makes us the real winners on the night. Leastways we think so anyway.

And so, Scoop we reckon, is proof positive that a good idea efficiently executed out of a back-garden shed can foot it with the corporate giants in the world’s first truly free medium, the Internet.
Which is, if you look at Xtra’s (jewellery sales to New York, children tripping to mars) dreams coming true advertising campaigns, exactly what the corporate giants seem to want us to believe about the Internet.
And speaking of propaganda...
REMINDER…. Way To Love Scoop No. 3
Do You Know Any Advertisers? We Want Them To Know Scoop
Scoop has a favour to ask. And with our consecutive placement near the top of the public’s affection ladder in people's choice Internet awards -
(see… 2001 People’s Choice NZ Internet Awards
http://www.scoop.co.nz/mason/stories/SC0110/S00005.htm for last year’s triumph!)
- we reckon we deserve a shot.
We have a great story to tell advertisers who are willing to listen, and who are not blinded by the bright lights, flattery and fast cars of our competition.
We have a huge audience 10-15,000 visitors a day and climbing (Note... by way of comparison NBR sells 14,000 copies a week & Unlimited Magazine around 3000), 1.1 million pages a month +. And we need your help to get the word out to potential advertisers.
So:
If you are someone in the media loop. Have a marketing budget within your purview. Or know anyone in the advertising, marketing/media business then we urge you to put in a plug for us.
Perhaps send them this email and the following link (a page with the sort of blurb that they are used to reading, rates etc.)

And if you don’t know anyone in the media biz, but still want to help out, then good on you! Do the same, but just pick on a marketing manager for a corporate that you reckon might suit a presence on Scoop. Write to them. Ring them up. Send them flowers. Flatterthem. We know you have imagination and flair.
After all you love Scoop!
With kind regards and thanks to all our readers
