Battle of Billionaires Goes to OneWorld
The Swiss syndicate racer Alinghi was beated by OneWorld this afternoon in the second day of Louis Vuitton races on Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf.
It was dubbed the battle of the billionaires and the race saw the Seattle OneWorld syndicate start ahead of Alinghi and leading by 22 seconds at the first mark.
OneWorld held that lead until the third mark when Alinghi siphoned 3 seconds off OneWorld’s lead.
A tactical match ensured Alinghi carved the gap down to 10 seconds by the fourth mark.
OneWorld won the race by 10s.
