It was interesting to read the response by Jeanette Fitzsimons to the advertising campaign that will be run by the Life
Sciences Network during this last week of the election campaign. She states, "Pro-GE interests will trot out their usual
litany of bad science, half-truths and misleading information."
Personally, I will be interested to hear what they have to say for the simple reason I am appalled at the litany of bad
science, half-truths and misleading information trotted out by the Green Party and their various cohorts, Greenpeace, GE
Free NZ, Forest & Bird, etc, etc.
Jeanette goes on to say .. "We certainly know which companies will benefit from the commercial release of GE organisms
into our environment. Foreign owned companies like Monsanto, Dupont and Novartis have racked-up billion-dollar profits
from their GE plantations and experiments."
I think this statement demonstrates the Greens' real concerns - they would be fine with GE - as long as big business was
not making a profit.
Ms Fitzsimons then adds, "How can they justify their involvement in an ad campaign aimed at influencing voters just days
out from an election?"
Excuse me Ms Fitzsimons! The Green Party are going to stop their own litany of half-truths, bad science and scare
tactics aimed at the uneducated, uninformed voter in this last week of the election campaign? I doubt it - so lets get
some balance. And at least, unlike the Green Party's advertising campaign, it will not be MY money paying for it.
