McRae Intends To Keep Finger
By: Lance Hastie www.car.co.nz
After his crash in Corsica, Ford's Colin McRae has created a stir by quipping that he might have his little finger amputated.
Injuring his little finger in the Corsica Rally crash, McRae was fully aware that it was going to take time for his finger to heal. After speaking with doctors since the accident, McRae has been disappointed at the slow recovery of the injured finger.
Clearly casting doubt on the ability of McRae to perform at his best during the recovery period, he has created an intense buzz of concern over a comment that he should have it amputated.
"My finger will be strapped up because the bones still need more time to set properly," said McRae.
However, he was reported to have asked his surgeon, "Will it heal quicker if I chopped it off?" - with the answer "Yes".
While Ford were quick to dispel the comment as just a quip rather than Colin's true intention, the team are looking at shifting the gear select lever to his left hand side, allowing him to grip the steering wheel comfortably with his right hand and retire his left hand to lighter duties.
While it has been suggested to the former world champion that he shouldn't compete this weekend, he is a sure starter in the Catalunya Rally.
Proving the commitment the drivers have toward achieving World Rally Champion status.
