Anderton's Entrepreneurs - An Ideological Dichotomy
Dear Editor,
Kiwi's 2nd placing in the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) 2001 confirms Kiwi's are a highly entrepreneurial people.
Acting Prime Minister Jim Anderton seems to be positively glowing in this achievement as if it were, somehow, his doing.
Yet, it seems to me, there is a dichotomy here.
How can a Minister and Government, hell bent on re-nationalising and/or regulating everything they set their eyes on, be extolling the virtues and opportunities created by a nation of entrepreneurs?
On the other hand, it is those very entrepreneurs that may earn the money the government can then tax with glee, assuming they continue to run their business from, or work in, New Zealand of course.

i am not too sure if i totally agree with the sentiments contained in your article.
i don't think it is just "fringe" groups that are against the attacks in afghanistan. and to be frank the original task in hand seems to have been somewhat forgotten by the US in their fixed approach to unsettle the taliban.
terrorism is not the taliban and the taliban is not terrorism. the rhetoric has always been about taking a stand against international terrorism. and i gotta say that while it is known that bin laden has been involved in other such strikes against the US the US has not once divulged any concrete evidence to support their desire to apprehend the man. the US's use of punishment in a situation where they really are only wanting to apprehend and question seems incredibly heavy handed. i was wondering the other day david that if bin laden was in another country whether the same heavy-handed approach would have been utilised...
and as i mentioned above the stand against international terrorism should not be about deploying the military might of several states against an unjust regime in a country already impoverished through decades of turmoil. it is about rooting out the actual centres of terrorism around the world - and that is a difficult task that would, no doubt, be done in a much more covert way...
anyway, there you go
