The Battle of Genoa begins officially tomorrow but already the city is locked down by security forces, with numerous reports of abuses of protestors human rights already emerging. See SWO’s Joe Carolan Writes From The Genoa Barricades for a report from a Kiwi participant on the barricades.
More than 100,000 activists are converging on the Italian port city to protest at the G8 Summit of the top seven industrial nations plus Russia.
It would appear from the aggressive policing and the large numbers of protestors due in the city that the scene is being set for disturbances of a far larger scale than those seen either in Prague in September last year, or in Seattle in 1999.
On Sunday the 21st up to 150,000 protestors are expected to take part in what is billed as a peaceful demonstration in the city.
The following are images and artwork from the Italian Indymedia website which is providing live coverage of events.
