Dear Editor,
While not wishing to reopen the seemingly "lost cause" debate on defence, recent purchases announced by "the tiny
city-state of Singapore" must have our defence wizards wondering how they got it so wrong.
Singapore has just announced the purchase of an additional 6 frigates, 4 submarines and 20 F16C fighters.
In justification, Singapore's Defence Minister Tony Tan said "Singapore has no apparent enemies. But the government
feels its big and well-financed military helps ensure its position as an oasis of peace and prosperity in an often
turbulent region".
One must wonder what our Prime Minister has to say to that?
