Supercomputer Weather: When The Rain Comes

Published: Mon 2 Apr 2001 01:32 PM
Light rain is now falling in Wellington as a low pressure system moves onto the country bringing much needed rains throughout the North Island.
The above image from the NOAA weather supercomputer’s short range forecast model shows the path of the wet weather system over the country in the next 30 hours. Rain is shown in the coloured lines with each line representing 1mm of rain in a six hour period.

Unfortunately this week’s spell of rain is not forecast to bring much rain to the drought affected South Island with the system expected to swiftly move off the country to the East.
However, as the image below shows, more April rains may well arrive just in time for black Friday April the 13th, and the Easter break.
