Scoop Feedback: Iraqi Sanctions
Regarding the sanctions against Iraq and the death of children, please note that Saddam has raised billions - yes billions - of US$ which he is permitted to use to buy food and medicines. This money is from UN approved oil sales. Saddam has chosen not to use this money to buy the food and medicines the people of Iraq need - in fact it is understood that much of this approved revenue is sitting bank accounts. So, who is responsible for the death of the children? Saddam has the money and UN permission to buy food and medicine, but he is not doing so. Having said that, my personal opinion is that the sanctions don't appear to be working and need to be rethought.
