Police have arrested and charged a 26-year-old Wellington man for the murder of Victoria University Law student Gavin
Dash.
The man appeared at the Wellington District Court today. Judge Richard Watson remanded the man for a week to have a
psychiatric assesment.
Described only as an unemployed house painter, the man’s identity has been suppressed for a week. Due to the public
interest in the case it is likely the suppression will be lifted after this time Judge Watson said.
Meanwhile the police will be conducting further searches for the body of Gavin Dash in and around the suburb of Karori.
The arrest comes after a nine month investigation into the disappearance of Mr. Dash. Mr. Dash went missing in September
last year after he failed to turn up for a meeting with a former landlord. He was last seen in the Law School library in
central Wellington.
