Fiji Coup Again!
- In what looks like a rerun of events from 1987 seven masked and armed men in civilian clothing have seized control of
the Fijian Parliament. Phone lines to Fiji have been down this morning and the Parliamentary invasion coincided with a
march through the Fijian capital by indigenous Fijian protestors who have been calling for the Indian led government of
Mahendra Choudry to step down. Reports on the Coup in Fiji were received by Scoop this afternoon. The reports were
originally carried on Fiji Radio and the Fijilive.com [1] website. See... NEWSFLASH: News Of The Fiji Coup [2] in the Headlines wire. See also the political reaction… New Zealand Government condemns coup attempt [3] and Opposition condemns overthrow in Fiji [4] , both in the Parliament wire..

currency. The most proximate explanation for the fall is the strength of the US dollar following a 0.5% rise in interest
rates by the Federal Reserve. Finance Minister Michael Cullen has called for calm.
