Police have admitted they could have done more to find missing law student Gavin Dash.
A Wellington police spokesman said this morning that the initial inquiry into the missing student went well for the
first three days.
But he admitted police should have reacted sooner to put more resources into the search which remained a missing person
investigation for several months after the disappearance.
Gavin Dash went missing in September last year after he failed to turn up for a meeting with a former landlord. He was
last seen in the Law School library in central Wellington.
Police only admitted Mr Dash's disappearance had become a homicide inquiry yesterday. They had apologised to the parents
who had accepted that Gavin was probably dead the spokesman said.
He also implied police may have identified a suspect in relation to Mr Dash's disappearance, saying he would not be
drawn into discussing the details of the investigation as this could alert the possible killer.
Police are presently looking for a patch of carpet that went missing soon after Mr Dash's disappearance at the
Wellington tip.
They are also questioning Mr Dash's acquaintances and flatmates.
