Petone’s “Uniqueness” To Be Highlighted

Published: Thu 4 Nov 1999 12:56 AM
Hutt City Council is seeking designers to come up with a unique structure to showcase Petone’s pure artesian water supply.
“Petone is looking to celebrate the millennium with something special. Something to reflect all its great features, including its pure artesian water,” Hutt City Council Mayor John Terris said.
“We are asking interested members of the public to submit a design for a structure to allow free access to Petone’s pure artesian water. This water, filtered naturally and without any chemicals added, is an asset treasured by residents and sought by many others around the region.”
The civic work, incorporating taps and drinking fountains so people can enjoy Petone water straight from the aquifer, will be situated on the corner of Jackson and Buick Streets in Petone.
“As there are no pre-conceived ideas on the form of work, the possibilities are numerous. The result should be something that Petone residents and others can look upon as yet another unique feature of the area,” Mayor Terris said.
