Duathalon Champ To Speak at New Brighton Library

Published: Fri 29 Oct 1999 12:53 AM
The world duathlon champion, Debbie Nelson, will speak at the New Brighton Library on Sunday 31 October.
Nelson, of Christchurch, will speak at the library from 1.30–2pm, after the Park to Pier Bike Ride.
The bike ride, organised by the Christchurch City Council, aims to raise the profile of cycling as an easily accessible, non-competitive and inexpensive activity.
The ride will start from North Hagley Park and end at the New Brighton Pier with a prize giving ceremony at 12.30pm.
For those wanting to spend an afternoon by the sea, there are plenty of activities, including Nelson's talk at the library.
"While the ride is not a library event, we felt it was an ideal opportunity to encourage people from around the city to visit the new library," said Sasha Bowers, the library's promotions & publications co-ordinator. "We are delighted that Debbie has agreed to give a talk which will focus on her sporting career and the value of participating as well as competing."
New Brighton Library is open from 10am–4pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Entry to the talk is free of charge. For more information, please contact New Brighton Library on 388 2249.
