More than 1000 native trees are to be planted in one day next month at a Burwood reserve.
Residents are invited to the event to help plant the native trees, but they have to takes spades, and gumboots. It is
also suggested a picnic be held on the day at the site.
The Horseshoe Lake Residents’ Association will be organising the big planting with help from Trees for Canterbury, the
Christchurch City Council, and The Warehouse.
The planting will take place on Sunday 10 October at the Horseshoe Lake Reserve and planters will assemble at the main
Lake Terrace Road (opposite Lakewood Drive) car park at 10.30am.
Horseshoe Lake Reserve is a natural wetland area being restored to its former glory and is a haven for the increasing
number of birds there.
The plantings will be made on a peninsula area, between Lakewood Drive and Oregon Place.
Trees for Canterbury and the City Council are supplying up to 1200 trees and the residents’ association is supervising
the planting. The Warehouse issued a challenge to its credit cardholders to donate their bonus points to help to provide
the trees.
