Revolutionary New Spread Reduces Cholesterol

Published: Wed 22 Sep 1999 03:34 PM
Meadow Lea Foods has announced a technological breakthrough that means thousands of New Zealanders with high cholesterol will soon be able to reduce their unhealthy levels simply by using a revolutionary new margarine spread.
Until now the most effective way to treat very high cholesterol levels has been through medication however Logicol contains plant sterol ester which prevents cholesterol being absorbed from the digestive tract.
Logicol, when taken frequently as part of a balanced diet, can reduce 'bad' cholesterol levels by 10 percent in three weeks and thereby reduce the risk of heart and blood vessel disease which causes more than 41 percent of deaths in New Zealand.
Meadow Lea Food's new product is similar to spreads such as Benecol which have taken the rest of the world by storm. Now it's New Zealand's turn and we certainly need it! Results from the New Zealand National Nutrition Survey announced last month revealed 23 percent of the adult New Zealand population had total cholesterol levels higher than 6.5 mmol/L.
"Meadow Lea Foods, as the market leader in spreads, is absolutely thrilled to be launching Logicol in this country and we know New Zealanders and health professionals will welcome it as a revolutionary product," says group manager - nutrition, Wendy Morgan.
"Because Logicol reduces cholesterol it can reduce the risk of heart disease and therefore help save lives."
Logicol will be on New Zealand supermarket shelves in early November and will retail for a premium price reflecting its cholesterol reducing qualities.
