The ski racing equivalent of the Bledisloe Cup starts tomorrow, August 18 when New Zealand's and Australia's top ski
racing athletes battle it out for the MILO Cup on Coronet Peak.
The MILO Cup is open to racers from all nations, however, only athletes from New Zealand and Australia will compete for
the prestigious Europa Cup starting position at stake. The Europa Cup is the premier ski race circuit in the northern
hemisphere, athletes can only enter if they have previously qualified for the event.
Organiser of the MILO Cup Juliet Satterthwaite says athletes will accumulate points depending on their placings over
the next four days. "The top Kiwi or Australian female and male competitors will receive an automatic entry into a
Europa Cup race this coming northern hemisphere winter."
"Thanks to MILO, athletes based in the southern hemisphere have a fantastic opportunity to hit the big time of ski
racing."
The MILO Cup is four out of eight races which make up the trans- tasman clash. The second set of four races will be
held at Mt Buller, in Australia, later in the month.
