Is The Future Female? Generations Of Women Look Back And Ahead.
Six outspoken Auckland women will assess the place of women in New Zealand society as we near the end of the millennium, at this year's Smokefree Woman's Suffrage Brunch in Auckland.
At a time when one of the country's largest companies is run by a woman, and the Prime Minister and the leader of the opposition are women, we ask the question - Has the women's movement achieved what it set out to accomplish?"
Two generations of women will look back and ahead in a bid to ascertain whether the future is really female. Speakers include Herald columnist, Kate Belgrave; writer and feminist, Camille Guy; Director of Maori women's Development Inc, Dame Georgina Kirby; National Maori Smokefree Coordinator, songwriter and performing artist, Moana Maniapoto; young lawyer and daughter of prominent New Zealand feminist Rosemary Ronald, Shae Ronald; and Pacifica vice president, Laurel Taufauata. Carole Beu, one of the owners of the Auckland Women's Bookshop, will chair the event.
The Women's Health Action Trust brunch is being held at Central Hotel, Auckland from 9.30am to 12 noon, Saturday 19 Spetember. More than 300 women are expected to attend this event which usually sells out.
