Bob Herbert, manager of RCA act Five, was tragically killed in a car accident yesterday (9/8/99).
While travelling alone to Windsor, Bob's car aquaplaned in heavy rain, and veered into the opposite lane, hitting
another vehicle head on. He was killed instantly, and the 2 passengers in the other vehicle are currently being treated
in intensive care.
Bob is survived by his wife Ann, daughter Nicky and son Chris, who is also co-manager of Five.
The father and son team brought Five to RCA in 1997 prior to which they were responsible for putting together The Spice
Girls. Currently, Five are on a promotional trip in South America and have been unavailable for comment. We will release
a statement from the band as soon as possible.
Five's first single "If Ya Getting Down" which debuted at 2 in the UK recently has just been released in New Zealand,
with their second album due for release in November this year. It is not known at this stage if plans for the release of
the album will now be delayed as a result of this tragic event.
Simon Crowell, Five's A man at RCA said,"Bob worked closely with many people at BMG in the past two years. Everyone here respected him greatly,
and he was always the perfect gentleman. He will be missed by all of us as a colleague, and more importantly, as a
friend. He was tremendously proud of his son, Chris."
