Deadline for Submissions on the New Regional Hospital Today
Public interest in the new regional hospital for the Wellington area has been high, says Ministry of Health Chief Medical Advisor Dr Colin Feek.
The deadline for written submissions is 5pm today, and the Ministry is expecting a number of last minute submissions.
As of midday Friday, the Ministry had received 140 written submissions. It had distributed at least 5300 discussion documents and about 830 people had attended 19 public meetings and focus groups.
"The meetings and groups have been valuable and the issues raised in them will be considered along with the written submissions. I would like to thank everyone who attended them for their contribution," Dr Feek said.
Topics covered included the hospital's size, location, relevance of associated services and the public's health needs.
Meetings were held in Wellington, Porirua, Kapiti, Hutt Valley, Palmerston North, Wanganui, Napier, Masterton, Nelson and Blenheim.
The analysis of submissions will be completed in September when a decision will be made. Planning the new hospital will then start.
