Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch diners are in for a treat over the next few weeks, as New Zealand's largest
restaurant competition gets underway. Nearly 200 restaurants have created their own unique wine and food matched menu
for this year's Corbans Wine and Food Challenge, which starts next week (August 3) - 76 in Auckland, 56 in Wellington
and 53 in Christchurch.
The competition, which has become the country's most sought after restaurant award, runs from August 3 September 4.
During that time, diners will have the chance to try a huge range of wine and food matched menus in restaurants and
cafes of all kinds - from silver service restaurants to ethnic cuisine.
Each restaurant has created a special challenge menu, aiming to create the ultimate three-course menu with matching
wines. The menu is offered to all diners during the challenge.
"It's a value for money dining experience with a maximum price of $75 for three courses and three glasses of wine. Of
course, many menus are priced below this and diners do not have to have all three courses. They can choose to try just
one or two of the wine and food matches. There is challenge menu to suit every taste, budget and occasion," said Mr
Scanlan.
A panel of wine and food experts in each centre judges the challenge, including the winners of last years competition.
The Auckland panel is headed by wine and food writer and commentator Kerry Tyack, while senior judge Martin Carrington
takes the helm in Wellington, and Newstalk ZB host Robin Harrison looking after Christchurch.
