New Blind Foundation Ceo Focuses On Delivering Quality Services
The Royal New Zealand Foundation for the Blind Chief Executive, Jane Holden says that providing quality services to
blind and sight- impaired people is a priority.
"We have considerable expertise in the management of blindness and sight impairment," she says. "So it is logical that
we concentrate on what we are good at and continue to build on that knowledge and our skills. Continuous professional
development is our commitment.
"In addition to that we will be working on forming strategic alli ances with like minded organisations such as the one
we recently announced with the Society for the Prevention of Blindness. We face an alarming growth in people needing our
services as the population ages and the incidence of diabetes and glaucoma increases. As a consequence any efforts we
make to reduce the incidence of preventable blindness will be very important," she says.
"Earlier this year we asked the people who use our services what they would like from us. Last month we began putting
in place an organisation designed to meet their requests."
Jane Holden's 'new look' organisation has eight divisions. Each focuses on an area of core business for the Foundation.
Adaptive Living Services offers new Foundation members training, equipment and skills that ensure they continue living
independently in the community. Adaptive Support ensures members continue enjoying those activities that enhance their
lives. That might be through recreational, educational or vocational activities. Homai Vision Education Centre continues
to provide quality education to students and Quality Assurance will measure performance and service delivery to ensure
professional standards are maintained and continually improving.
Other divisions are Revenue Generation, Blindness Prevention/Awareness and Corporate Services.
"Because we rely so heavily on community generosity the Revenue Generation Division is very important. This Division
will continue to deliver innovative programmes that build relationships with donors and raise awareness of the
invaluable contribution every donor makes to the lives of blind and sight impaired people," says Jane Holden.
"I have developed an organisation focused on delivering quality. After all blind and sight impaired people should
expect only the best because they are citizens with the same rights and responsibilities as anyone else. We intend to
deliver the best."
