Office Classifies Lolita

Published: Fri 23 Jul 1999 03:19 PM
The Office of Film and Literature Classification has classified the film Lolita as R18 with a descriptive note warning of violence and that it's sexual content may offend.
The 1997 version of Lolita was adapted from Vladimir Nabokov's controversial novel of the same name and stars Jeremy Irons, Melanie Griffiths and Dominique Swain.
To assist in the classification of this film, the Classification Office held a consultation with members of the public, selected by an independent research company. The opinions expressed by participants of the consultation, after viewing the film, were considered in conjunction with the relevant legal criteria in the classification of the film.
