Weather Workshop: 5 day forecast for NZ

The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New
Zealand to midnight Thursday.
Situation: A high to the north of the country pushes a weak ridge
back onto the North Island. A weak southwest change is spreading
up the country today. Tomorrow and Tuesday a low slowly drifts
across the upper North Island while a ridge dominates the South
Island. On Wednesday the low lies east of gisborne and a complex
trough starts to form in the Tasman Sea. On Thursday the trough
forms into a low and starts to move northeast towards Northland.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA,
WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE and TAUPO: Cloud
increasing today, scattered rain developing over Northland late
afternoon. Remaining mostly dry elsewhere. Further rain in
Northland tomorrow but only the odd shower elsewhere. On Tuesday,
rain spreads down as far as Bay of Plenty then eases to showers in
Northland and Auckland. Mostly cloudy elsewhere. Becoming fine on
Wednesday with cool southerlies but scattered rain from Waikato
northwards again on Thursday
WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Cloud increasing this evening with the odd
shower tonight. Becoming fine early tomorrow. Fine again on
Tuesday then cloud increasing on Wednesday. Mostly cloudy but dry
on Thursday.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Mostly fine today. A few brief
showers may spread into Wairarapa this evening. Tomorrow, morning
cloud clearing and becoming fine. Cloud increasing on Tuesday with
patchy rain developing in Gisborne. Rain spreads as far south as
Hawkes Bay on Wednesday with cloudy skies elsewhere. On Thursday,
remaining cloudy with a few coastal drizzle patches but dry inland.
WELLINGTON: Fine today. Cloud increasing this evening with a few
showers possible tonight. Becoming fine tomorrow. Mainly fine on
Tuesday and Wednesday but cloud increasing on Thursday.
NELSON and MARLBOROUGH: Fine today, cloud increasing this evening
with a few brief showers possible. Fine tomorrow and Tuesday.
Mainly fine on Wednesday but cloud increasing in Nelson. A few
showers in Nelson on Thursday but cloudy and dry elsewhere.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: A few showers working north today
then clearing from the south tonight. Fine tomorrow and Tuesday.
Cloudy at times on Wednesday and Thursday with a few showers
possible.
CANTERBURY: A southwest change spreads north today with
brief showers then clearing this evening. Becoming fine after
morning cloud clears tomorrow. Mainly fine on Tuesday and
Wednesday but cloudy with coastal drizzle on Thursday.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Showers clearing inland today with cool
southwesterlies easing. Becoming fine everywhere apart from a
few cloudy periods about the Otago coast. Further coastal cloud
on Tuesday and Wednesday but fine and frosty inland. Cloud at
times on Thursday with areas of coastal drizzle
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Cloud and fine breaks today with the odd shower
possible. Showers and southwesterlies tomorrow and Tuesday. A mix
of cloud and fine breaks on Wednesday then becoming colder on
Thursday with showers returning and southerly winds freshening.
