Wellington Hospital nearing full capacity

Wellington Hospital nearing full capacity

Capital & Coast District Health Board (CCDHB) is encouraging people with minor injuries and illnesses to seek medical help from their GP or call HealthLine.

Both Wellington and Kenepuru hospitals are operating at or near full capacity, and chief operating officer Chris Lowry says people as a result can expect longer waiting times in the emergency department.

Lowry says there is no obvious trend for the higher numbers, as patients of all ages are presenting with various injuries and illnesses.

The hospital is still providing a very high quality of service, and has rostered on extra staff to deal with the larger numbers of patients.

Lowry would like to thank the public for their understanding and patience; however, she urged the public to leave the hospital’s emergency department for emergencies.

Unless it is an emergency, the hospital would like to remind people to please seek medical help from your GP or call HealthLine on 0800 611 116.

Lowry would like to thank the clinical teams and all other staff who are working around the clock to see every patient as soon as possible.
