Discharge Without Conviction, Disgrace!”
8 August 8, 2014
The decision by Justice Helen Winkelmann yesterday, to discharge an 18-year-old attacker without conviction has been
labelled a disgrace by Red Raincoat Trust spokesperson Debbie Marlow. “To think that a young life has been lost
unnecessarily and there are no consequences for the offender/s is incomprehensible” Debbie said. “The Dudley family will
be feeling like they are living a night mare, there has been no validation for their grief, they have lost a much loved
son and no one has been held accountable”.
Red Raincoat Trust is a non-government, not for profit organisation whom assists and supports families of homicide
victims. Their volunteer Victim Advisors work with and adapt to a homicide families changing needs throughout the
judicial process and beyond. Red Raincoat also offers a support network of families from similar circumstances.
“The decision the offender made on that fateful day has left a family devastated and now it seems there are no
consequences for their actions, what lessons are our children learning from this? Our thoughts are prayers are with the
Dudley family”.
