Capital & Coast District Health Board Interim CEO appointment extended for a year
Chair of Capital & Coast District Health Board Dr Virginia Hope today announced that Debbie Chin’s secondment to CCDHB from Standards New Zealand has been extended for a further year through to March 2015. Mrs Chin has been the Interim CE for the past six months.
“The Board requested an extension of Mrs Chin’s secondment for several reasons including the importance of providing continuity in leadership for CCDHB,” said Dr Hope. CCDHB has had several changes in leadership in recent years and continuity is essential to consolidate the achievements made, especially in relation to enhancing the experience of patients as we continue to develop stronger links with our community health partners and neighbouring DHBs.
Another consideration was the need for the new Board that commenced sitting in February to have the opportunity to discuss the future form of the position and have input into the recruitment process.
“In addition it is important to develop an understanding of the future direction of CCDHB over the next three years and clarify the skills required to lead CCDHB into the future. With 3DHB work becoming a central focus within the sub-region, it is also important for the appointment of a permanent CE to support this direction. Accordingly, the Board will be consulting with neighbouring Boards on future directions and requirements.
“The past and new Boards have been pleased with progress over the past six months and are very pleased that Debbie is available to carry on her work at CCDHB as it continues to look to provide sustainable health services that evolve with new technologies and the changing needs of our communities.”
Standards Council chair John Lumsden said the Council was pleased that it was able to continue to assist CCDHB by agreeing to an extension of Debbie Chin’s secondment.
“We also believe that it is desirable and necessary for the Board to have leadership continuity at a time when progress is being made and, as Dr Hope says, CCDHB is focused on identifying its direction over the next three years.
“The Council is pleased to advise that Michelle Wessing, who has been Acting Chief Executive at Standards New Zealand over the past 6 months, will continue in that role for the duration of Debbie’s secondment.”
