Another busy night for the Greenlea Rescue helicopter
Another busy night for the Greenlea Rescue helicopter
Last evening Taupo's Greenlea rescue helicopter was called to Te Kuiti to a man who had fallen off a motorbike. He was taken to Waikato hospital with head and chest injuries.
Just after returning to Taupo, the Greenlea helicopter was tasked by the rescue coordination centre to assist with an EPIRB that had been activated in the Kaimanawa ranges.
The beacon had been set off from Kens hut by the hunting partner of a man who had failed to return from his days hunt.
The two men were on the first day of a five day stay.
With the aid of night vision goggles the crew of the Greenlea rescue helicopter was able to spot the missing mans torch which he was using to signal his position.
LandSAR volunteers were then able to hike from the nearest landing site available and help the man, who had injured his ankle, back to safety.
