Integrated Maori health service set to launch in Taranaki
Date: August 28, 2012
Taranaki based Tui Ora Limited and the National Haoura Coalition, will tomorrow launch Te Kawau Mārō – an integrated approach to delivering health services for Maori and high needs populations in Taranaki – a first for the region.
Te Kawau Mārō through Tui Ora Limited and the Coalition will see a total district approach to providing health services to Maori and high needs whanau, providing a range of services including Mental Health, Primary Health, GP services, Well Child, Long Term Care and Home Based Support.
The Alliance will deliver Whanau Ora services, allowing for a more co-ordinated family approach to resolving health and social issues.
Te Kawau Mārō sees Tui Ora Limited join with the National Hauora Coalition to enhance services and offerings to Maori and those most in need within the Taranaki region.
The National Hauora Coalition is a Whānau Ora organisation with a national Primary Health Organisation (PHO) containing over 60 GP practices. Its members represent a full range of providers and organisations serving more than 330,000 Māori and non-Māori high-needs whānau throughout New Zealand.
Tui Ora Limited chief executive Hayden Wano said improving health outcomes was the key priority for Te Kawau Mārō.
“The objective is to make a significant difference in improving health outcomes for our population. This will be done in partnership with other providers in the sector.”
He said Te Kawau Mārō also created the opportunity to work closely with Iwi to achieve this common goal.
“This is very much the beginning of a process but we are already starting to make a difference for our people. Our aim is to have our services accessible to a wider number of people in Taranaki, and we will continue to work collectively to improve the wellbeing of whanau..” - Ends
