Printing efficiencies see $250,000 savings

A new fully managed print, copy and scanning device service between Waikato District Health Board and Ricoh New Zealand
will result in a $250,000 saving for the DHB in its first full year.
And the savings will continue to flow through in subsequent years as staff take on board the printing efficiencies
available with new technology.
Waikato DHB communications director Mary Anne Gill, who manages the contract with Ricoh, said thousands of documents
were printed, scanned and faxed by Waikato DHB each day.
“By analysing how we do this and partnering with Ricoh, we’ve been able to quickly get savings,” she said.
The leader in digital office solutions, Ricoh has enjoyed a successful partnership with Waikato DHB for several years.
This continues on another level, with Ricoh providing a total managed print device solution.
And as an approved supplier for the ‘all of Government’ printers and multifunctional devices contract, Ricoh have been
able to extend extremely favourable terms to the DHB thus also contributing to the savings.
Ricoh has Hamilton premises on the corner of Anglesea and London Sts and nationally has a diverse client base of more
than 7000, spanning district health boards, government departments, universities and local councils, as well as
businesses of all sizes.
Other cost savings will come from Follow-You™ printing, which avoids wastage caused by uncollected print jobs, as well
as automated printing rules, meaning for example, if someone wishes to print out an email, it will be printed out in
black and white (cheaper than colour printing).
Part of the contract meant that Ricoh will by the end of April replace and reduce the 712 old print devices ranging from
desktop printers, laser printers and multi function devices by 32 per cent to 488.
Waikato DHB plans, funds and provides hospital and health services to the more than 365,730 people who live within
Waikato DHB boundaries, which covers almost eight per cent of New Zealand, from northern Coromandel to close to Mt
Ruapehu in the south.
