Fresh Future Children’s Hospital Appeal Returns to the South
Southland Hospital Children’s Services is welcoming the return of the Fresh Future Children’s Hospital Appeal with an official launch this Wednesday, and hopes the Southland Community will again show excellent support for the fundraising venture.
Over 18,000 staff from Countdown, Foodtown, Woolworths, Super Value, Fresh Choice and Dick Smith – and from the DHBs themselves – team up for this enormously important appeal, which runs from 3 Aug to 27 Sept.
Last year Southland District Health Board’s (DHB) Children’s Services received $65,000, a share of almost $1 million raised by New Zealanders for sick children in ten children’s wards across the country.
The funds enabled Southland Hospital to purchase various items from its wish list including essential equipment for its neo natal unit, equipment and resources to assist with physiotherapy and child development and oximeters and thermometers with dedicated equipment for isolation rooms.
Southland Hospital Children’s Ward Nurse Manager Marie Irvine said Children’s Services is very grateful to be chosen as a recipient of the appeal for a second year.
”The Fresh Future funding has enabled our service to purchase items that we would not otherwise have been able to,” said Mrs Irvine.
“Southland Hospital staff were pleased to be a part of the fund-raising efforts and the involvement of children in the activities was really positive.”
Fresh Future champions will be advising local media of upcoming fundraising activities. Locally, Southland DHB staff will also be selling sunflower seeds as part of fundraising activities (sunflowers being the official symbol of the appeal).
Editor's Note: To make a donation during the appeal, customers can place money in collection boxes or buy raffle tickets in stores. Online shoppers can add a $1 donation onto their shopping bill when they shop at www.foodtown.co.nz or www.woolworths.co.nz.
