SUBJECT: Fresh Future Appeal Raises $125,000 For CDHB’s Children’s Wards
Christchurch Hospital's children's wards have received $125,000 from the annual Progressive Enterprises Fresh Future Appeal, which aims to raise funds for paediatric wards nationwide.
Progressive Enterprises’ Managing Director, Peter Smith, this morning presented a cheque for the sum of $125,000 to Canterbury District Health Board paediatric staff, Christchurch Hospital.
The appeal ran across Foodtown, Countdown, Woolworths, SuperValue, FreshChoice and Dick Smith Electronic stores and support offices nationwide for eight weeks in August and September. Progressive staff have participated in a range of activities to raise money for the appeal, including a charity walk/cycle from Invercargill to Auckland in September. Eight CDHB staff joined walkers on the Canterbury leg of the charity walk/cycle.
Anne Morgan, CDHB Child Health Service Manager, said she was delighted Canterbury people had risen to the challenge and helped raise money during the appeal. The $125,000 would be spent on new equipment for Christchurch Hospital’s children’s wards.
“It’s fantastic to see how enthusiastic Canterbury people have got behind this year’s campaign. We are very grateful for all their enthusiasm and for Progressive Enterprises’ support in running the campaign,” she said.
Peter Smith said, “We’re all keen to support kiwi kids in hospitals, their parents and the wonderful medical professionals who treat them. This is community fundraising at its best.”
The Fresh Future Appeal was held for the first time last year, raising more than $1 million for dedicated children’s wards at Christchurch, Dunedin, Waikato and Wellington Hospitals and Kidz First Children’s Hospital in Auckland. Of that, CDHB’s children’s services received more than $200,000, which has been used for various equipment.
