ACC Fraud Investigation
Several media outlets have today run items about an ACC fraud investigation. ACC does not comment on specific cases, to avoid potential legal proceedings being prejudiced.
``That said, the people of New Zealand can be assured that ACC takes a zero tolerance approach to fraud, in line with public expectations. New Zealanders pay ACC levies to ensure they can get help if they are injured and we work hard to ensure that is where the money goes’’, said Dr Jan White, ACC Chief Executive.
``In the last 5 years over 5000 cases have been investigated and ACC’s Investigation Unit has identified and dealt with fraud amounting to $150 million.’’
``Any organisation involved with investigation work will confirm that this type of activity can often be more complex than it appears on the surface. This is in part due to the need to follow strict processes and procedures, to ensure a satisfactory final result.’’
``It is more important to do it right than do it fast.’’
