Skylight Appoints Lynne Ewart To The Role Of
Clinical Advisor
Skylight today announced the appointment of Lynne Ewart to the role of Clinical Advisor.
Skylight is a Wellington based charitable organisation that provides unique support to children, young people and their
families/whanau through trauma, change, loss, and grief.
Lynne Ewart, as one of a small team, established what is believed to be New Zealand’s first group counselling course for
bereaved children in 1994. This led to the creation of Skylight in 1998.
As Clinical Advisor, Lynne’s responsibilities include the management, support, development and promotion of Skylight’s
counselling service.
Lynne Ewart says: “It is a great feeling to have come full circle and to be in an active role on the Skylight team. I
feel passionate about Skylight and the services it provides to children, young people and their families. After being
involved in the establishment of the organisation, I am hugely excited by the growth and energy of Skylight, and its
loyalty to its original goals.”
Lynne first began counselling children experiencing loss and grief in the late 1980’s at Hutt Hospital, before moving
onto Barnardo’s and eventually to Mary Potter Hospice, where she worked as Manager of the Social Work, Counselling and
Spiritual Care Team. With a background in social work, Lynne completed her Social Work Competency assessment in the
early 1990s, using case studies based on families experiencing terminal illness and death.
After leaving Mary Potter Hospice in 1999, Lynne underwent a career change which saw her join the Wilson Funeral home
where she qualified as a Funeral Director.
Skylight, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, helps more than 5,000 people throughout the country each
year. Skylight is very reliant upon the generous support of donors and sponsors, which has enabled them to provide a
unique and empowering service to children, teens and their families who are impacted by loss and grief.
Skylight’s Chief Executive Bice Awan says “We are delighted to welcome Lynne back into the Skylight family. She is such
a huge part of this organisation; her experience and organisational knowledge is invaluable to us.”
