Plunket welcomes updated infant nutrition guidelines
The release of the revised Ministry of Health guidelines on Food and Nutrition for Healthy Infants and Toddlers (Aged 0-2), has been welcomed by Plunket.
“We are delighted that these guidelines have been revised”, says Allison Jamieson, Clinical Advisor at Plunket.
“We know that breast milk is the optimum food for the health, growth and development of babies. The new guidelines recommend babies are exclusively breastfed until they are around six months old and continue to be breastfed until one year of age and beyond”.
Plunket and other organisations have participated in the review of these guidelines and believe this is a great resource for care delivery staff out in the field.
“Our Plunket nurses, Kaiawhina and Karitane will use the guidelines, providing families & whānau with up-to-date, evidence based information on the nutrition and feeding of their children’, says Mrs Jamieson.
