Southland Nursing Awards Launched
Excellence in nursing will be celebrated across Southland through a new awards programme, launched jointly by Southland District Health Board (SDHB) and the four Southland Primary Health Care Organisations (PHOs).
The "2008 Celebrating Southland Nursing Excellence Scholarship Awards" will be a first for the region and will formally recognise and celebrate nurses for their innovation, clinical excellence, contribution to the community, leadership and research.
Four $1,000 scholarships are being awarded to nurses who demonstrate excellence. The scholarships are targeted at supporting the recipients to advance practice and/or professional development.
Nominations have now opened and are invited from nurses across the primary care sector, community health and workplace settings and hospital environments.
The scholarships are being funded by the PHOs and SDHB, through the Violet McBain Trust. Ms McBain was a former patient of various departments of Southland Hospital, who left a bequest to support hospital nurses.
Nominations will be accepted until Friday 11 April 2008 and will be reviewed by a panel of four representing the PHOs and SDHB. The winners will be announced at a special awards evening at the White Heron on International Nurses Day, Monday 12 May 2008 – kindly supported by Jane Todd, Harcourts Real Estate.
The nomination form can now be accessed from the SDHB website or PHO Office.
