DG Inquiry into conflict of interest issues at Hawkes Bay DHB to be released in just over a fortnight
1 March 2008
The Director-General of Health announced today that the Inquiry into conflict of interest issues in the Hawkes Bay DHB board will be released in just over a fortnight.
Director-General Stephen McKernan says he has been informed by the independent panel chair that they will deliver the completed report to him by close of play Friday 14 March.
Mr McKernan says following last minute checks of the completed report, it will be provided to the Minister who has indicated he would like it released at the earliest opportunity – expected to be Monday 17 March.
Mr McKernan says he is waiting for the final report to be provided to his office.
“Given that there has already been one legal challenge it is important to follow due process and to allow affected parties to comment appropriately to the panel on the information that will be in the report.
“That process has, of necessity, required confidentiality to ensure information provided is comprehensive and accurate and that confidentiality must be respected until the report is completed.”
Although the injunction taken by the Hawkes Bay DHB board against the report’s release has now been discontinued, I have acted to protect the integrity of the process involved in the report’s release.
