Wellington Student Launches 'I Heart My Penis' Sexual Health Campaign
Nicole Skews, Welfare Vice President of the Massey At Wellington Student's Association (MAWSA) is launching a sexual
health campaign aimed at male students in time for orientation.
Due to the lack of males getting STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) checkups at the Student Health Centre, Nicole is
launching the 'I heart my penis' campaign to encourage male students to get more checkups, and curb the high rates of
STI such as Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea in young people.
Chlamydia is the most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection and is on the increase . It's called the silent
epidemic as approx 50% of males and 70% of females have no symptoms.
"I want to keep the campaign simple, heart your penis, go and get an STI check-up at your Student Health centre." says
Nicole. "I think the slogan has widespread appeal, even though it is aimed at males, females will get on board with it.
It's funny but it has a message."
The simple, to the point campaign will be launched in time for orientation, through posters, cards and t-shirt
giveaways. It has been conceptualised with the Massey Student Health Centre and is being welcomed by the Student's
Association at Victoria University.
