College set to give accreditation for anaesthetic training
The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists has indicated it plans to recommend training accreditation to the Capital & Coast District Health Board Anaesthetic Services for 2008.
Representatives from the College completed a site visit and final audit last week and said they would be recommending that the College Hospital Accreditation Advisory Committee offer accreditation.
C&C DHB Chief Operating Officer Martin Hefford says it was through a concerted team effort that the achievement has come about.
“We are delighted with this recommendation and look forward to receiving a formal announcement in due course. I would particularly like to thank all those in the anaesthetic department for their hard work to make this happen,” he said.
“It is a tribute to the outstanding teamwork in this department and the dedication to working through the audit process, that we have achieved this result. I look forward to working with all our staff to ensure continued delivery of top quality anaesthetic services and training.”
The accreditation comes after recommendations from the College during its review of training, were successfully progressed at the DHB. These included:
- Increased staffing, including anaesthetists and anaesthetic technicians
- Updated equipment and increased resources
- Improved workspaces
