More Socialism Won't Resuscitate Dying Health Industry
Libertarianz Health spokesman and Masterton GP Richard McGrath said today that the Association of Salaried Medical
Specialists should cease their calls for more government interference in the health system.
"For seventy-plus years, we have had state interference in the practice of health care," said Dr McGrath. "Where has it
got us? We still have endless waiting lists and an overburdened, over-regulated workforce of demoralized health
workers."
"The public hospital system is a disgrace," he added. "Socialism has nearly destroyed it. How much more evidence do we
need before we accept that socialized medicine just does not work? Not only that, but it is also immoral, because it is
bankrolled by money that is extorted from the productive, and rationed out as though it was a limited resource."
"Socialism is a cancer that has taken a heavy toll on the lives of New Zealanders," said Dr McGrath. "I applaud ASMS for
pointing out how moribund the public health system has become. But we need to excise this cancer, rather than allowing
it to destroy the lives of more New Zealanders."
"If elected to government, the Libertarianz Party would sell off state-owned health infrastructure, shut down the IRD
extortion racket and allow private healthcare to flourish. People should be encouraged to take charge of their own lives
instead of having politicians doing their thinking for them."
