Naturopaths Elect First New Zealand President

Media release

April 5 2007
Naturopaths Of NZ Inc. Elect First New Zealand President

Naturopaths of New Zealand Inc. has elected Jane Lawrence as their President at their inaugural conference and AGM in Rotorua.

Two naturopathic associations have amalgamated in order for naturopaths to have a stronger presence in the community.

“Naturopathy has come of age and has a significant contribution to make in primary health care,” says Ms Lawrence.

Lawrence sees naturopaths working collaboratively with the other health professionals to provide new solutions for the health crises that confront the public health system.

“Today people require a new kind of health professional – one that assists people with a proactive approach to health, rather than wait for a health crisis to occur. The absence of a named disease does necessarily mean that we are in a state of good health.”

Members of Naturopaths of New Zealand Inc. have graduated with a Diploma in Naturopathy from various accredited colleges throughout New Zealand, with some members having gained a degree with further study out of New Zealand.

Ms Lawrence is the Wintec (Waikato Institute of Technology) Programme Manager for the Certificate in Natural Therapies and the Diploma in Natural & Complementary Medicines programmes, which she designed and wrote for the institute’s School of Health. Lawrence also has a busy clinic in Hamilton where she sees people for one-on-one or family consultations. She also designs health education programmes for staff in various organisations to improve staff health and energy and performance.
